I’ve been writing a short story in my journal all weekend. It’s been sucking up my spare time (when I wasn’t drinking wine, eating pizza, and watching Hot Tub Time Machine). It’s not a story about monsters, but it is monstrous. It’s 40+ pages long, and I have a suspicion that it’s going to be at least 50 pages when I’m finished.
I was hoping to have a review of the new issue of Shimmer Magazine up by now. Fortunately, they haven’t linked to the new issue yet. I’m hoping to have the review finished and waiting to link to their sales page by tomorrow. I can say this: Shimmer has put together a new issue that does what I love best: they subvert popular fairy stories and make them more. More sexy, more dark, more twisted. There are two stories vying for my favorite slot for this issue. One is about a jealous snowman. The other is about selkies and other Irish fantasy folk. My favorite image is of merpeople chowing down on gobbets of flesh. Or maybe its of fisherwomen butchering mermaids for their meaty tails…
